Cleveland Sports…
Seeing how I got rightfully slammed on political views, I’m going in a different direction. And seeing how I was at work while the second debate was going on I have no real idea what was said. My family in WV are Republican and that’s Coal Country. And you can guess which person they were pulling for…
Anyways…
Cleveland Sports Fan is a long suffering fan. Broken promises have littered the city like so much garbage. A football team leaves due to the ineptitude of an owner, a basketball player promises multiple championships, a Baseball owner that promises to spend cash to get players, etc… I could go on but you get the idea. The reason I bring this up is that “The Cleveland Browns” (Or what I call Browns West because they went to Baltimore and we got an expansion team. They won a Super Bowl and we haven’t had a decent season in years) have a new owner and in as many years and more promises that have been broken before and Golden Parachutes for the people who made those promises. Lebron James goes to Miami and wins a Championship. Players from the Cleveland Indians have gone on to win Championships. You’re seeing a pattern here, right? Don’t get me wrong, I like sports. I like watching sports. But it’s all entertainment, right? And I for one haven’t been pleased with the results. So, back to Browns, there is going to be another coaching change at the end of the year barring a miracle and they finish at a fifty/fifty win record. Since they have been back in town, there has been many changes in the coaching department, quarter backs, and front office who is supposed to be making decisions. They have all gotten paid and we the fans have been “Waiting For Next Year” for so long that if we were to win a Championship, this town will erupt and dancing on the streets and Hell WILL freeze over. Don’t get me started with Lebron James. The biggest douche bag since Art Model left with the Cleveland Browns because he was broke and the city of Cleveland wouldn’t build him a new stadium. Yeah he left but he held the fans of the Cavaliers hostage as he made his “decision”. He could have left but to to it the way he did it still to this day has the fans still fired up. And after the new owners of The Cleveland Indians over-payed for team after the last owner payed around $30 million and got back way more than that and forced the city of Cleveland to build him a new stadium or he was going to move the team (which became an idea for a movie that you may have heard of, ‘Major League’…), the fans feel that they aren’t really serious about a “winning team”. And we have a new coach for that team. And The Cavaliers are in a second year with a new coach and they look to be a half way decent team.
So you can imagine what was on the minds of Clevelanders. And it wasn’t the debate. I listen to sports talk for entertainment. Because Rush Limbaugh and others depress me with their views.
With the casino and a half way decent restaurant area (you have heard of Michael Symon?), what’s it going to take for a winning championship or to get players here to want to come and play for the various teams? That’s one of the many questions that are on the minds of Cleveland Sports Fans. That and another school levy that will most likely fail. (The way the state of Ohio has of paying for schools is bewildering at best). Oh, yeah. Both candidates spending huge amount of ads to the various TV Stations to tell you how/whom to vote for.
So, that was on my mind today while I was at work trying to do my job. Oh, the Detroit Tigers eat The New York Yankees last night. And Ohio State Buckeyes are in the top ten college poll, even though they’re not going to be playing in any bowl games due to sanctions levied by the NCAA and my cousins of WV Mountaineers got spanked and unless something happens with them, they will be playing in one of the lesser bowl games.

It’s Fall and the bouncing temps are not doing this body of mine any favors. So enjoy the decent weather as long as you can and see you on the weekend.

Wow! Quite a post! I wholeheartedly agree with your description of Lebron James. Can’t stand him. People say that big players have huge egos. I disagree. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Thabo Sefalosha, Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison…the list goes on…all these guys are super nice. I told you that during the lockout, they played pickup ball at a couple of the local universities with some of the kids. They worked on their charities here. Nice guys all around. Not all big stars have those horrible attitudes like James has.
OMG! Major League! I remember that movie. In fact, I think we have it! Charlie Sheen was extremely young. (Wild Thang!)
Ironic that you didn’t want to talk politics, but you know that sports is rife with politics. Hope the rest of your week is a good one.
I’m afraid I can’t comment on sports. I live in the boonies, don’t follow any teams and don’t get television reception. I’m sorry you got slammed for your politics. It seems folks should be able to think what they want without being dragged thru the mud for it. I can’t even say much on bouncing temps because we’re pretty steady in that department.
smiles,
Shari
@wickedgood - The upper 70 degree range the next few days in the Cleveland area and by next week maybe snow. Ah, North Eastern Ohio in The Fall. I use Sports to escape the madness that is politcal ads. Less than two weeks of unrelenting ads…
