  • A few things I don’t get (No, this isn’t a Xanga rant/Goodbye)…

Yeah, this isn’t a Xanga rant/Goodbye. No, beat that horse dead to the point of ashes.

This a blog of things I don’t get. A few things that have been bouncing around my head for years or just recently.

    You’ve been warned.

Okay, I get the fact that some bands change members, vocalists, and some times their sound. But where do people get in having the name and they’re the only original person in the band? Queensryche comes to mind. The lead vocalist and the other band members are touring separately. I liked this band back in the day but I don’t get the fact this has happened. Journey has gone through two lead singers since they fired Steve Perry who was having mental/physical problems (See Behind The Music Remastered on YouTube), Little River Band is another band where some one bought the rights to the name and has SUED the original members from playing together as The Little River Band. Yeah that has been bugging me for years.

Why is it that the stuff I used to love younger tastes so much different now. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Coke, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese etc. Has my tastes gotten better/worse or were things better then. Was it before they made things “cheaper” and less ingredients for longer shelf life. I mean, there are more chemicals than actual real ingredients. Am I becoming that person who says things were better then than now???

What bugs me is when a CLEVELAND sports fan can’t enjoy their sports teams. Lord, just listening to these morons on sports talk radio makes me question if they’re a few fries shy of a Happy Meal. And one radio station who lost the rights to broadcast The Cleveland Browns games starts to slam the team. Granted, the owner is under fire due to his other business but right after it happened, this one talk show host started blasting everyone who was in on the deal etc. The baseball teams’ attendance isn’t good this year. Well, when the weather suck, the fans are gun shy to previous years of bad play, and a host of other excuses, it’s tough to spend the cash to go down to see them play. That’s another thing the sports talk hosts are talking about. May end up not listening to sports talk radio for a while. Good thing The Cleveland Indians are being played on the FM station. The two play-by-play guys are great. I’m going to end flipping back and forth between that and NPR until things settle down a bit. Less than 90 days until football training camp starts. And Summer hasn’t started yet.

I am still trying to figure out why Netflix/Play Station Network/anything streaming end up cutting out parts of televised shows. This has happened to me on a few occasions and it irritates me to no end. I am paying for said download/service. Do me the service of NOT doing that, please???

Who actually thinks that “reality TV” isn’t scripted??? Or keep repeating the same formula until they beat us dead. Man, I’ve about had it with American TV. I find myself watching more shows from BBC on Netflix/PBS than I am American shows.

Why is it that some shows like Firefly get cancelled and shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo are getting renewed??? Shudder, need some thing else to erase that thought out of my head.

I wish there was more restaurants that BAN cell phones. I mean, come ON. If you’re that busy and take a little time to enjoy some ones company and look in their eyes and actually TALK, maybe you should be back at work.

Speaking of work… When did we as a culture get so paranoid if we take vacation we might loose our jobs??? And people wonder why people fly off the handle and are stressed out.

And these are a few things that make scratch my bald head…

Tomorrow I get to work by myself away from the noise that are my co-workers. Work at my own pace and just enjoy the job. And my work week is half way done. Have I mentioned lately I LOVE a four day work week? Or that I’m glad a good supervisor who has as a warped sense of humor as the rest of us do? One thing that blows my mind at work and NO ONE has clued into. If you can just take a few minutes out of ones busy work day and talk to one of the people who work in purchasing, the freebees just roll in. That and if you don’t get too greedy. Yeah, I am SO GLAD no one has clued into that yet. It ebbs and flows but I’ve gotten a ton of free stuff from work.

And this previous post WILL NEVER EVER be on Facebook. The amount of crap I could catch over this would be… Not good for me. Which is why I am on Xanga and get to share this with you here. Or vent or ponder. Thank You One And All.

There are a few more things bouncing around in my head but we’ll leave that for another day…

    Be safe and enjoy life…

  • Yeah, I know what you mean . . . I would never post any of my Xanga stuff on Facebook. By the way, you have some very pressing concerns weighing you down these days. (And I barely watch TV anymore. It’s all terrible.)

  • Facebook? Me, never! Hubby and son partake but it’s no for me. TV is suckage for sure (I do watch a handful of shows but would gladly pass in favor of old music or even silence). Cell phones are great for emergencies (got mine after 9/11 but only because my husband and I were teachers and my son was sitting on our porch waiting for one of his parents to show up~ never again)! Only a handful of people have my number (sick of saying sorry to folks but I don’t text or take text messages). Yes, your post is exactly why I have love Xanga ad will the it if it goes away! Thanks for posting.

  • You mentioned some of my past favorite bands. Guess I’m getting old.

As for those comfort foods, I still find coke (diet), and PB cups and Mac N Cheese yummy. I guess though I’m getting old, I’m still young at heart (or at least my tastebuds are)

I’m not big into sports, don’t watch much tv except what’s on a dvd, and I don’t do FB, but it was good to read your thoughts. Now that you purged, maybe you won’t loose anymore sleep over these issues.

  • @Crystalinne - Wasn’t loosing sleep over this. Just thought with all the bridge jumping on Xanga, a bit of humor was needed. Don’t get me started on Paul Rodgers singing Queen. Man, that was BAD… Well, you age well if your pictures are any indication.

  • hey! they say your taste buds change every 7 years or so, so that may have something to do with you not liking the same foods you did when you were younger. or it may definitely have something to do with the ingredients, like you mentioned. there’re a lot of possibilities as to why! I used to love cheesecake as a kid and I can’t stand that crap now, but I love a lot more vegetables than I did back then, so things changed both ways for whatever reason.

  • since i’ve perennially gravitated to food… why is it stuff tastes different? lol. formulation changes often. coke classic was well into the what was it 13th recent change when it went all out to become new coke which flopped. here’s and interesting though look at a coke lable classic coke it’s water or filtered water, high frutose corn syrup, phosphoric acid flavoring *artificial and caffeine. a pepsi throwback is about the same lable and it’s difference is the real sugar only used… but look at a pepsi and it uses the same model plus citric acid as well. pepsi is always sweeter to me and in blind taste tests actually could win out except I know my coke so I usually pick it. ;) stuff tastes different because it is different – add to that our ability to smell changes over time so that someone in their 4-s will not like a complex dish almost at all and gravitate towards simple deliciousness.

as for cleveland fans… lol they are a very good bunch in this sense they are true fans with the f you’s flinging just the same as the turnstyles keep spinning no matter the weather just remember that as they cuss out and or slam their team they keep showing up in droves. true fans…oridiot why bother to complain if you still pay and show? just in the same breath why not complain we want more and we pay for it already?

coffee is an interesting thing to get back to food not nibbling on the cleveland insanities. coffee reformulates? garunteed each year yet the folgiers of the 80′s isn’t the same in origins as that of the now. they however still have predominantly used brazilian coffee to get that classic toasty taste for a LONG time smart folk know that taste and while it is never exactly the same there is a idea of it that will follow you all your life because they know what you want and you prove it buying it again and again. but here’s a thing like coffee… have you a memory when macdonald’s coffee was wretched and yet everyone loved it oi? or how seveneleven coffee like all gas station coffee sucked yet now go in there truly do and you’ll taste coffee albeit from a pump thermose that compares to or beats chain coffee depending on your luck. I of course 20 years ago would say gevalia coffee whipped them ut gevalia is much bigger and not as itonce tasted still not bad mind you just not as magical.

have you ever gotten the confusion comically of course that if a clevelander was chearin the team with a go browns! that they might be talking about UPS?

  • Foods don’t taste the same because they are not the same. Like you said, before they started using cheap ingredients, processed foods were actually edible.

  • I have a version of your first question with relation to sports teams. if the players and the coaches change every year, what makes you so positive you’ll like this year’s version of the Indians as much as last year’s? Or that they’ll do as well?

  • @leaflesstree – The sports fans want a championship so bad it not even funny to listen to. I like to listen to the games and watch them when I can. It’s entertainment pure and simple.

  • Thank you for sharing all of this…such a good example of the value of Xanga!
It IS a place we can share our hearts, our thoughts, things we might not share with our parents or siblings…we can feel safe here to rant, share serious stuff, share naughty stuff…etc…and get feedback, support, another point of view…etc.
I’m so with you on the phone and handheld device stuff…if a person is out to enjoy another persons company…turn off the cell phone! I miss the “sit on the porch and look into people’s eyes and talk and laugh” days.
    HUGS!!!

  • Thank you for the kind rec’ on my xanga-memories post! I sure appreciate it! HUGS!!!
