  • Here’s a question for you out there in Xanga Land…

So, here’s a question for you there in Xanga Land. When was the last you went to a Drive-In??? The local news paper ran a feature on the disappearing Drive-In. There is one in my hometown. A interesting question seeing how the first day of Summer is Friday.

Edit: Drive In Movie. Ooooops. The reason I put this out there because Hollywood is going all digital. No more actual film. The device to play the all digital movies cost a pretty penny and the remaining few in Ohio are thinking about closing or have closed because of that and other reasons. Sorry about the confusion…

  • It has been many many many years since I have been to a drive in. In fact there are none anywhere near me.

  • Movie? Or the drive-in food places like Sonic?!
    HUGS!!!

  • @adamswomanback -  I mean movie. Ooops indeed…

  • i knew you meant movie. :) our drive-in closed a couple years ago. i was bummed. but i think that i heard correctly that we have some kind of outdoor movie showing thing nearby. gotta check that out.
i think we saw a double feature of Cars and Pirates 2. back in the day.

  • Wow, that has been quite a while ago actually. They had one in Hawaii, so that was middle school and first years of high school. Then they had one in Spain. I remember watching STAR WARS Attack of the Clones there. Haven’t been since though.

  • I haven’t been to a drive in movie in many years, like over 16 yrs I’d say, because I haven’t found any around here in NW FL. There was one near my college in CT. It had 3 screens and always showed a double feature. It was cool, nostalgiac. I would enjoy another. The quality may not be as great, but it’d be good to watch shows one has already seen, or for dates who probably would miss part of the movie anyhow ;) It was a good place to show off one’s car, especially convertibles,  or turn a truck or station wagon around backwards, and bring blankets and pillows for the whole family.

  • It was in 2005, and I saw War of the Worlds (starring Tom Cruise). I went with two buddies of mine, both males. I sat between them in the truck. This was a defining moment in my life. Me and one of my buddies started to notice each other in a different kind of way… our hands started touching… we discussed later that we wished it was only the two of us in that truck. He’s my husband now. That was the moment the friendship became romantic. At the drive-in.

  • I don’t think I’ve EVER been to a drive in. I would like to go, though. I have a friend who goes all the time, unfortunately that’s 3 hours away from where I live.

  • I haven’t been to a drive in this turn of the century.

  • We have a few in my city. I’ve always wanted to go but just haven’t. Maybe this summer I will!

  • There is one that’s still open in an Iowa town near where I grew up. I have fond memories of going there with my family and seeing movies like, Hellfighters with John Wayne Wayneand Robert Hutton (was it Robert? or James?). It must be close to thirty years since I’ve been to one.

  • 8 years ago? Wonder if its still there

  • We have a drive-in,in Ohio. It just went digital.

  • About two weeks ago. We have a two screen drive-in about three miles from our house. The gates open at six and the movie usually starts around 8:30. They are sold out by 7:00 every night. It costs $7 per adult, kids under six are free, children 6 – 12 are $5. You get two current shows for that price. The second movie usually doesn’t start until after ten so it makes for a late night. They have the traditional playground and encourage lawn chairs and “family time” The week they had Star Trek and Fast and Furious showing they were sold out by 6:15…. no joke. The line down the highway started around five.

People like it and it’s fun.

  • I figured you meant movie…but just thought I’d clarify…as I love BOTH kinds of drive-ins!!! We had a drive-in movie place close to us for years and years…but, sadly it is closed now. I have so many amazing, fun, etc. () memories of going to the drive-in! I went to the drive-in on occasion as a kid, went on dates as a teenager and an adult, took my own kids to see movies at drive-ins…so many great memories!
And it was always cool ’cause you got to see two movies!
    Fun post!
    HUGS!!!

  • There was one in my town until a couple of years ago. It was a sad day when they tore it down!

  • Last one was back in 2000 — Saw ‘Gone in Sixty Seconds’ and ‘X-Men’. In 1992 I saw ‘Year of the Comet’ and ‘A League of Their Own’.

  • I went to a drive-in in Kent about five years ago. I don’t have any friends nearby now, and no car of my own yet, so I haven’t been able to go to one. But I really want to again! I think they’re so much fun.

  • There was still one in Lima, OH many years ago, and I think one near me now in a small town west of me in NC. We always made a family picnic for the movies.

  • There are a few in Colorado but I’ve never been to one. They now have bike- in movies in the park in Denver. I’m not sure how that works since I’ve never been.
