  • Odds and Ends…

A semi-productive weekend. Too bad The Cleveland Browns can’t win two in a row. But The Ohio State Buckeyes managed to squeak out a win.

I mowed the front yard, raked the back and vacuumed out the car. Fracking trees are still filled with leaves. So unless it’s raining next weekend, I get to rake more leaves. Or seeing how I got most of the debris raked in the backyard, may just mow front and backyards. Leaf blowers are so damned loud.

Need to see a doctor soon. My blood pressure is a bit high and I need to check out a few things that are concerning me. So in a week or two I should know  Just in time for the food fests I need to drop a few pounds. Sigh… Who said growing older was fun???

Watching The Patriot on BBC America and the irony is not escaping me…

Less than three weeks until the political ads ends. Wishing the money they were spending was put to better use than making the television stations richer. Because the less than of what’s watchable isn’t worth watching.

The next two Thursdays I get the honor of working in the freezer. And then the Holiday Madness I call Christmas Season begins. Strange imported items that are over priced get shipped to my warehouse and it’s up to us ware house workers to sort and figure out what goes to whom. And due to the holiday week of Thanksgiving, I get to work five days the week before. And I get paid on Thanksgiving. Am counting my blessings I have direct deposit for my paycheck. No heading to work on a Friday after Thanksgiving to get my paycheck. Or maybe like they did one year, we get paid the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Going to ask person in charge of payroll sometime soon about that.

Saw a video of Jackson Browne preforming Take It Easy with Bruce Hornsby: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Fo0UVxAbz9U#t=1s

So, have a safe week out there and maybe it won’t be as cold at night… Am so over raking leaves.

  • Cleveland Sports…

Seeing how I got rightfully slammed on political views, I’m going in a different direction. And seeing how I was at work while the second debate was going on I have no real idea what was said. My family in WV are Republican and that’s Coal Country. And you can guess which person they were pulling for…

    Anyways…

Cleveland Sports Fan is a long suffering fan. Broken promises have littered the city like so much garbage. A football team leaves due to the ineptitude of an owner, a basketball player promises multiple championships, a Baseball owner that promises to spend cash to get players, etc… I could go on but you get the idea. The reason I bring this up is that “The Cleveland Browns” (Or what I call Browns West because they went to Baltimore and we got an expansion team. They won a Super Bowl and we haven’t had a decent season in years) have a new owner and in as many years and more promises that have been broken before and Golden Parachutes for the people who made those promises. Lebron James goes to Miami and wins a Championship. Players from the Cleveland Indians have gone on to win Championships. You’re seeing a pattern here, right? Don’t get me wrong, I like sports. I like watching sports. But it’s all entertainment, right? And I for one haven’t been pleased with the results. So, back to Browns, there is going to be another coaching change at the end of the year barring a miracle and they finish at a fifty/fifty win record. Since they have been back in town, there has been many changes in the coaching department, quarter backs, and front office who is supposed to be making decisions. They have all gotten paid and we the fans have been “Waiting For Next Year” for so long that if we were to win a Championship, this town will erupt and dancing on the streets and Hell WILL freeze over. Don’t get me started with Lebron James. The biggest douche bag since Art Model left with the Cleveland Browns because he was broke and the city of Cleveland wouldn’t build him a new stadium. Yeah he left but he held the fans of the Cavaliers hostage as he made his “decision”. He could have left but to to it the way he did it still to this day has the fans still fired up. And after the new owners of The Cleveland Indians over-payed for team after the last owner payed around $30 million and got back way more than that and forced the city of Cleveland to build him a new stadium or he was going to move the team (which became an idea for a movie that you may have heard of, ‘Major League’…), the fans feel that they aren’t really serious about a “winning team”. And we have a new coach for that team. And The Cavaliers are in a second year with a new coach and they look to be a half way decent team.

So you can imagine what was on the minds of Clevelanders. And it wasn’t the debate. I listen to sports talk for entertainment. Because Rush Limbaugh and others depress me with their views.

With the casino and a half way decent restaurant area (you have heard of Michael Symon?), what’s it going to take for a winning championship or to get players here to want to come and play for the various teams? That’s one of the many questions that are on the minds of Cleveland Sports Fans. That and another school levy that will most likely fail. (The way the state of Ohio has of paying for schools is bewildering at best). Oh, yeah. Both candidates spending huge amount of ads to the various TV Stations to tell you how/whom to vote for.

So, that was on my mind today while I was at work trying to do my job. Oh, the Detroit Tigers eat The New York Yankees last night. And Ohio State Buckeyes are in the top ten college poll, even though they’re not going to be playing in any bowl games due to sanctions levied by the NCAA and my cousins of WV Mountaineers got spanked and unless something happens with them, they will be playing in one of the lesser bowl games.

It’s Fall and the bouncing temps are not doing this body of mine any favors. So enjoy the decent weather as long as you can and see you on the weekend.

  • Top Three Tuesday and other comments…

Before going to that fun thing called Top Three Tuesday, I’m going to check in on a few things here…

Got the flu shot yesterday because most of my fellow co-workers don’t not cover their mouth when they cough. And when I’m around them for hours on end and close proximity… Yeah, going to be popping all sorts of vitamins starting next week.

Watched the Felix Baumgartner jump from over 128,000 feet Sunday. What was cool about it was it was the same date Chuck Yaeger broke the sound barrier way back in the day. Me, I’m not too fond of heights so a braver man is he. Maybe withe tech that went into making the suit he wore will lead to better and cheaper suits and another step in way to making Space a destination and hopefully maybe seeing a manned mission to Mars.

Am finding out I’m spending more time on the net and not watching TV as much. Well, it happens this time of year. The weather gets colder and staying indoors is preferable. That’s why I have my PSP and download the shows I want to watch.

My local library next weekend is having their quarterly sale. And while I’m not a friend of the local library, I usually score a few gems. So crossing my fingers this time…

    Without further ado…

    Top Three Favorite Soundtracks…

(Can’t find a decent drum roll app so I have given up on the idea of having a drum roll)

    1. Iron Eagle

    2. White Nights

    3. Vision Quest

(A span of a year that these three soundtracks/movies came out and I still have them on my MP3 player)

My favorite is White Nights. It’s a eclectic mix of music. From Lou Reed to Phil Collins and Gregory Hines doing tap dancing as a part of an instrumental. Vision Quest is a close second. From Journey to Don Henley. You’ll have a chuckle after listening to “She’s On The Zoom’. Background vocals done by the Gogo’s.

Well, Xangans what are your favorite Soundtracks??? Going back to a food top three Tuesday and may expand it to five and maybe to ten. Three is too narrow for most topics.

Time to get ready for work and maybe keep my sanity in tact for one more week. And whatever leftovers for the first meal of the day.

  • Wayyy off topic…

Okay, I was perusing facebook via my smart phone and I get feeds via the local news channels. This got my attention. (I can’t get the damned thing to post but if you go to wkbt.com you’ll see the video) Some jackass e-mailed a news anchor about her weight. If you go to the website, they have her response. This got my attention for number of reasons. One being some the things I said as a dumb freaking kid that was hurtful. And Lord knows I remember much of what I said. And a lot of the times, I got my ass beat up. And I deserved 90% of them. Which is why I don’t attend high school reunions. Like I need the reminder of the things I said. And probably they have forgotten about it. And this was way before the internet. I would really hate to be growing up in this age of instant anything. And more ways to be hurtful. I’ve grown up a bit and after a few bumps and detours along the way, I’m content with who I am. And I am over-weight. And I can see where people can view how people are via sight. And Lord knows I’m guilty of the same thing. Pre-judging someone without ever taking the time to know someone. Or jumping to conclusions without a safety net. And I didn’t know that the month of October is the month of anti-bullying. I think this got to me more because A. It IS hurtful. and B. All the freaking attack ads by politicians. Or all the ways media/society say how YOU ARE supposed to be. Be either with a family, be a straight person, have the most/best toys, etc. God forbid YOU should choose your own path. And be the person you want to be with having to deal with the judgemental people who say you be what everyone else is. Lemmings off the cliff.

It’s not something I normally post. As I’ve said in the past, I try and keep things light here. If anything, an escape from whatever real life is dealing with. But felt like I had to share that and maybe exorcise a few demons. Not the memories. Those keep me sane. Good and the bad. I threw out the rose colored glasses long time ago. And hopefully remember the past mistakes. And maybe try and be happy in my own skin. Or on a good day, keep my sanity. At the end of the day, that’s all one can hope for.

  • Top Three Tuesday…

A few items before diving head long into the sensation that’s taking Xanga by storm. Ok maybe not by storm. But I like to amuse myself. Any hoo…

Mark Harmon has a star on The Walk Of Fame. Gibbs would be proud and probably build a plague or a boat. If you’ve watched the show, you know what I’m talking about. And Friday is James Bond Day. Heck why not. Do something crazy. Watch your favorite Bond film. Say “Pussy Galore” and see what happens. Or any of the other Bond evil women. I’m fond of Zenia Onatopp. Or see what Jaws is up to these days.

    Now back to the show…

    Top Three Tuesday topic is….

Drum roll please… (Crap, forgot to down load the app)

Top Three Female One Hit Wonders!!!

(It’s ROCTOBER. Music themed for the next few posts. I may do this during the week if I have really nothing to say…)

    1. Jane Child

    2. Amanda Marshall

    3. Meredith Brooks

I’m using my old laptop and using Firefox, so no sample videos here until I get off my lazy buttocks and sync them.

So those Xangans, what are you Top Three Female One Hit Wonders???

Rainy Tuesday and a few other days. Made it through Monday. Three more days until the weekend.

(And if anyone of my choices had more than one hit, let me know. Going by what VH1 says. Actually Jane Child was almost one hit wonder. But she’s a one hit wonder on my list)

  • Political/Religion

Politics and Religion have been touchy subjects to me. All because everyone can’t be right/wrong. Same goes with most anything else. But name me anything else that has cause more people to go to war with someone else. I had to block two users because of this. I AVOID both topics as best I can. Because I know SOMEONE will be offended and I’ll say something snarky and will regret it. One comment I made about the two people running for the presidency and of all the responses I get is the one saying I may have made an error about why I won’t vote for Obama. I thought about not putting it in there but who was going to make a comment about that?. Oooops. So I blocked said person. After I made a comment I made in error of the facts. May have made an error. Don’t know. Don’t care. There are those here in Xanga land who do/know more about the “system” more than I do. They do it better than I do. My blog is mostly me making random thoughts, nothing too deep. I think the system is broke. Why? Why is so much money being spent on attack ads? Where is this money coming from? And what do these people expect to get in return? I really don’t want to know the answer. I will not like it. So, I’m burning my soap box on these two topics and try and keep things light and fun here in my little corner of Xanga.

Update: Never thought I get the response from this blog. It’s been good. I try and keep things light here. On the subject of Space, I am a nerd. And when a sitting president cuts funding to NASA, I’m going to say something about. Well not anymore. He did cut funding that would have enabled to fund various projects like a heavy lift launch vehicle. And I know my history that it was a number of years between the Apollo program and the first manned flight of the Space Shuttle. And NASA was created because of the Cold War. And President Kennedy, a Democrat, made the speech to go to the moon. And wondered in private if he made a mistake in doing so. And NASA should have long ago been promoting the commercial side of space exploration. And yet along with the comment about Romney, nothing was said. So I have destroyed the soap box and scattered the ashes in different areas. And if I offended anyone by blocking them, I am sorry. And I should keep my pie hole shut.

So no more of that. And I have ideas for the month of October. I mean Rocktober. Time to celebrate music!!!

  • Random thoughts…

The work week is over, clothes are done and the weekend chores are on the list. Nothing like trying to get out door work done before Winter rears his ugly head…

A few deaths in the Entertainment Industry. Andy Williams and Michael O’Hare of Babylon 5 died this week. On the later, he was the fourth cast mate of that show that has died. I’m sad to see him leave this plane of existence. One season of the show and he did it very well.

On the way into work Wednesday, The Romney/Ryan tour bus was heading west as I was heading east. All those State Trooper patrol cars and I floored it to work for a bit knowing that they were on the other side of the road heading in the opposite direction and that chances of me being stopped for speeding was very small. I can not wait for the political ads to end. President Obama will get his second term. I won’t be voting for him. And the main reason why is because he cut a decent chunk of NASAs funding. Sorry but there are more wasteful areas to cut funding from and he hasn’t yet. He’s had his hands full from the mess George W. left him and I don’t anyone will be able to fix it for a while. And all the money being spent on attack ads could/should be spent else where…

I’ll be heading to West Virgina the first week of November to see some family. So, I’ll be away for a week from Xanga land because up in the hills of WV, the internet service isn’t too great and it’s slower than molasses in the dead of Winter. I may try and post something but maybe a week from the internet will do me good. Yeah right, I’m an a junkie for the “Net”. Unless there’s some decent books coming out… But the main goal is to visit with family. And hopefully get some decent photos of the mountains before the first snow hits with my Galaxy Exhibit.

For the Coffee drinkers out there, Saturday is National Coffee Day. So those coffee drinkers may want to see if any place is going to celebrate the day.

Did anyone care that the NFL Referees are back? With all that is wrong with the world, even The President Of The United States had to add his comments on it. Sheesh… Anyways my “hometown” team is 0-4. The same day, The Cleveland Indians fired their coach. Ohio State Buckeyes are playing at 3:30pm Saturday. This ends the sports edition of this “Random Thoughts”…

Has anyone watched the new season of TV yet. The only two shows I’ve watched were NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles. Or has anyone watched Elementary, the new Sherlock Holmes spin-off? Or Vegas? The later being a show set in the late 1950′s-early 1960′s. As good as my smart phone, the PSP has a larger screen. I was watching Mission Impossible via Netflix on the phone. The quality was good but I prefer the larger screen on the PSP. I’d buy the PSP Vita but for the cash I’m going to shell out, I want it to do more. And for $250.00 for the cheapest version and not including their version of a memory card, I’m going to wait a bit.

As if I don’t waste enough time playing games, does anyone have any favorite games for their smart phone that they would recommend? Until I master the stylus, Words With Friends is out of the question.

Well, time to call it a night. Using a wire brush to prepare for painting next weekend. Lots of scraping and a front yard/back yard to mow before a rainy Sunday. I may read Andrew Vachss “That’s How I Roll” before calling it a night. For the writers out there in Xanga Land, I’ll read most anything once.

Have a safe weekend. One last entertainment bit of news: White Collar and Major Crimes have been renewed.
