  • This, that, and the other thing…

Here’s something funky from Barenaked Ladies:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKbVDeZY3b0&feature=player_detailpage#t=2s

Not too much happening this week so far. After having the refrigerator die last week and dealing with all that went with it. Well, it arrived a few days because we forgot to scan the purchase order to get in the system so had to re-do the order. Oh, have I mentioned we forgot to measure the damned thing. So it was about an 1/8th of an inch too small at one end so the cabinets had to come down and maybe someday soon, they’ll get planed down a bit and then the cabinets will go back in place. But next on the buy list along with a new microwave oven is a stove. It’s not a high priority, but the thing is twenty years old. It’s still works but I’m not the one who wants one. Lord, we have a toaster oven that gets more use than that. Me I’d rather have regular toaster because I like to have both sides of my bread toasted. Again it’s out of my hands.

The new casino in Cleveland is opening this Monday and because where I work at, you would think we would have picked up some business but alas we did not. Now figure this out because for some reason Ohioans are weird. We passed the law to have the damned things built almost three plus years ago. And just now we are opening one in Cleveland and in a few weeks in Toledo. The last one I can’t figure out. It’s spitting distance from Windsor Canada and Detroit which has casinos. I have never been to a casino and I may go to the downtown one out of curiosity but I never had a desire to go to one. My boss loves the places. Between Las Vegas and the East Coast, I think he has hit every major casino. So Thursday (I mentioned this in a pulse last Thursday) he got a chance to see the inside of The Horseshoe It’s the name of the casino which has a part owner of the name of Dan Gilbert, who owns The Cleveland Cavaliers and made his cash from a company called Quicken Loans) and he timed it at a little over four minutes from where we work at to the casino. I think that’s a bit quick because when it opens Monday, traffic is going to be even more snarled than it is anyways. I’ve living in this area for years and let me tell you that downtown Cleveland dies after 9pm on a good night. I used to ride public transportation and I know. I am leery because all I’ve heard about casinos ain’t been good for the community. So who knows.

Speaking of work: I’m counting the days until Summer is over with. Yeah, you’re saying Summer starts next month. Yeah, everyone wants to take their vacations during these months. So, from June-September, our place is going to short handed. And not to mention three holidays to screw up night crews work schedule. As I said before I love my job but this is the price I have to pay for my job. Oh that and The Feast Of The Assumption. Yeah, Little Italy has it every year. Think street party where the food and drink is over priced and a portion of the cash goes to the Catholic Church. Mean while there this awesome Italian restaurant near by me and my town has this festival called The Corn Festival (My old high school is next to a corn field. Yeah, and a highway that will take you to Cleveland in twenty minutes if you do the speed limit.). So, yeah, I’m not a big fan of Summer. It’s too damned hot and humid. More of a fan of Spring and Autumn.

Not much gong on this weekend. Slept in late today because I didn’t get much sleep this week. Just doing yard work tomorrow. And the usual chores around the house that needs taken care of. Veg out a little here for a bit and read for a bit and maybe get eight hours of sleep…

Be safe out there and have a quiet day tomorrow…

  • Marvels Avengers not the British version… A review: Spoilers, read later if you want

Okay Spoilers Alert!!!! You can turn back if you want. No. I mean turn back if you don’t to hear plot details and be totally bored by a comic book nerd…

    Okay, don’t say you haven’t been warned…

First off, I am a comic book nerd about certain comic book characters and I know going to see a movie that for the most part that it’s some one else’s vision. I get that and for the most part, I’ve been pleased with the movie versions. For the most part. I’ve read Marvels Avengers for nigh on 30 years (That’s the title on  the movie as not to be confused with The Avengers from across the pond and not that God awful movie version). And I read a version of Marvels Avengers called The Ultimates, which is a darker version of said comic book. Which has elements of both books that only a comic book nerd would catch. My favorite comic boo characters are no real order are Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and The Fantastic Four. I’ll do another blog why I like these later.

One other thing before seeing Marvels Avengers is you may want to see Thor and Captain America First Avenger first. Reason being that there are certain plot elements that are carried from those two movies to this movie. They explain as they go along but it would be helpful.

Okay, some place in the middle of no where, a goverment facility is attacked by Loki and takes some people with him and a device that allows you to go anywhere in the Universe. Nick Fury then calls in his people. One by one join him on The Helecarrier (Think Naval Aircraft Carrier that flies) try and locate Loki and his device. He made a deal with some aliens to give them his device for a price. A fight ensues between Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. The Loki starts to screw with everyone, escapes (This is bare bones, I know. Sue me…) and activates device and the alien invasion begins. Mass destruction, epic fight scenes, and tons of CGI… The Good guys win. The End.

Okay, if you have no clue to who the characters are and the back story, this movie ain’t for you. But if you have an idea what’s going on, give it a shot. The Back Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is, for some reason, has a good deal of screen time here. This being Joss Whedeon, he has strong female characters. And from what I was reading before, the story was going to be told from Captain America aka Steve Rodgers point of view. Which I am glad he went this way. Why I ain’t going to tell ya. (See the movie if you want to find out)

For the most part I liked the movie. There was a lot more humor than I was expecting. All the main and bit characters were well represented. Spoiler alert: Agent Coulsen dies. The guy who has had a part in every recent Marvel movie recently. And his death galvanizes the team in to action. There is a small plot of redemption that runs through the movie. Even Pepper Potts has decent small part. Mark Ruffalo takes the reins of Bruce Banner before they use CGI Hulk. Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye is good. Cobie Smulders is solid and Samuel L. Jackson is solid. But as much as I like Joss Whedon as a director (He did give us Serenity) and he did have a part in the writing, I can’t give this movie higher than a B. And I don’t think it has the legs like The Hunger Games. Yeah, two different styles of movie but I want to see The Hunger Games again and Marvels Avengers…Not so much… The guy who plays Loki is awesome as playing a bad guy. Why is it that the best bad guys are played by some British person? I may now want to see Thor and maybe see Captain America.

Overall, unless you’ve watched the previous movies, I’d pass on this. And it pains me to say this. But if you’ve seen the previous movies and want to see Joss doing what he does best, spend the cash and you won’t be disappointed. Parts of the movie were filmed in Cleveland Ohio and I caught a few places but I was more interested in the story and for the most part, it was decent. A lot decent actors had bit parts and I was more excited by that. I was kinda hoping for some other actors from previous Joss’s shows for even a cameo.Ah well. The comic book nerd was satisfied with it and I knew going in this wasn’t going to be nothing but what it was. A popcorn action movie. Will I buy this on DVD/Blue Ray? Maybe. The previews went on way too long before the movie and it wasn’t nothing I haven’t seen on-line. I still want to see The Dark Knight Rises even more.

Lord, it’s after 5:00am and I need to get a few hours of sleep. But I had to get this down before I crash before I started to really think about it and maybe give it a different review. I’ll blog later about my week.

And I hear the faint sounds of cricketts chirping in the back ground…

  • Random thoughts…

Before I start exchanging comments with promisesunshine, just thought I’d post some random thoughts today…

It’s almost May and there is a freeze warning tonight and I was dodging sleet and rain this afternoon. Gotta love north eastern Ohio weather.Added bonus that I’m less than 10 miles from Lake Erie. Where I work at, I go to the end of the street, I can see Lake Erie. It’s cool to see the waves crash on shore from where I stand. So i am afraid of what the summer will bring. Either it’s going to be a scorcher or another Ice Age. We had the rain last year so I’m kinda expecting drought conditions. So who knows.

Went to the local library for it book sale. Was hoping to pick up some more For Better Or For Worse collections but it was not to be. I did score some interesting items. Some of the things I picked up were: No One Here Gets Out Of Here Alive, Season One of Millennium in good condition, The Godwulf Manuscript in pretty good condition, two other Robert B. Parker books that I didn’t have (He did write 50+ books), A Max Allan Collins novel on the show Bones, A Elmore Leonard book, a book by G. Xavier Robillard that caught my eye, The Richard Bachman collected books, The Guns Of Navarone, A couple action/adventure books, a Tim Dorsey book, a Vince Flynn book, a couple of westerns and a U2 CD I didn’t have. All told I spent a whopping $13.00. So before going to bed, I will read the Bachman book. I love Stephen Kings introduction to the book…

Sister is cooking something I was told that has to sit over-night for some damned reason. I have enough left-overs of my own to eat. Nothing like Won ton Soup with fried rice with shrimp, ham, pork with assorted vegetables. That with a week old pine apple up-side down cake and I think I don’t have to cook to much this weekend.

Cut the front yard yesterday after watching the weather forecast. Hoping to get the rugs and curtains to a laundromat tomorrow and maybe do some weed trimming around the homestead depending on how warm it it is…

Time for some dinner unless I get distracted by making comments on other Xanga posts…

  • The week that was…

“May You Live Interesting Times.” What I should have done last Sunday night was drink a couple of shots of Crown Royal because I got little sleep. I woke up late, got blocked in the driveway until 2:50 pm. I was supposed to be at work twenty minutes before that. I am rushing to work. Rushed so fast I got a speeding ticket. Swell. That was my first speeding ticket and it’s going to cost me $170. Ah, have I mentioned here how I freaking hate Mondays???? Get to work, fly through my work and get my first decent news of the week. Well, decent for me. One the guys had a death in his family. His aunt passed away over the weekend and he was going to be off the rest of the week. His job was my old job. Which meant that I was not going to be in walk-in cooler and work at my own pace. Which means work as fast as I can and do paper work (seperating the orders and writing a out of stock list). It sounds worse than it sounds. I was away from the chaos that what I call work. One more day of that and it’s back to dealing with the animals… I do have a mp3 player to drown them out but it’s nice not to have to do that for a week.

It was nice all week and what does it do Sat/Sun??? Raining and maybe snow on the east side of the state of Ohio. My cousins in southern West Virgina got snow there. I’m guessing Mother Nature wasn’t told that it is Spring.

Some idiot clipped our mailbox Saturday night. Spent most of the day fixing that but have to install it Monday morning after painting it. Ah, I miss my apartment at times…

Found a new cartoon show to watch. On Disney HD. Ultimate Spider-Man. Kinda like Teen Titans with the influences but worth watching.

Picked up at Dollar Tree of all places season one of Party Of Five and Ned and Stacy. Impulse buy yeah, but where else are you going to find this with the shrink wrap on for a dollar. As it goes to box of other stuff I have bought and have no real use for yet…

Went with Dad to buy new mail box and on the way bought some new shirts because the one I have are more than five years old and for the price of $35, I have five band new shirts. Two of them are polo shirts with pockets.

Almost got a new phone but I didn’t like the phone they were offering. Maybe next time. There are a few things I need before I get a new phone. But in the next three months or so I will get that or a Kindle fire or a tablet. Yeah, my want list is a tad expensive but it’s something to shoot for…

So unless I’m up to my chest in snow tomorrow, I’m just hoping I can make it through Monday. And in north eastern Ohio, it can happen.

So here’s some Little River Band to close out…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=iq2WJ2r0NkM#t=4s

Have a great week and to those of us on the east coast, try and stay warm…

  • This, That, And The Other Thing…

First off, for some damned reason My Internet Explorer is acting funky. I’m using Firefox to do things like posting here and adding credits to my face book account so I can play Bejeweled Blitz. Any ideas why this happening would be nice. I can, for Xanga, use the pulse but having a hell of time time posting. This after I re-upped my subscription to Nortons. So I’m clueless right now.

I managed to survive the freezer this week. The guy whom I’m filling in for has his own way organizing his area. A for instance. Take one brand name product and he has it in three different areas. Multiply that by more than a lot, and you begging to see a pattern here. Only he can do it and when he want to take a vacation, some dumb smuck, namely me, has to figure it. The blowers are full blast, loud and freaking cold. I could lose some more weight and fit into a freezer suit. My company being too cheep to buy one my size. Thursday was a banner day with what I call desert day. A Imported band name in frozen deserts has part of an aisle to itself and while there are some damned fine deserts there (Sometimes when management feels generious, they let have some samples.), trying to get the order right is damned near impossible for a person who have no idea what they’re looking for. A few people have tride to organize it only to have said twit put it back to “his” way of doing things. Oh, where we work at has no bar code system, so a physical inventory is required at this place. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I work nights, work four days a week, and I have health coverage. The cost for that is me being on nights has to put with a certain amount of crap like that, having to work holiday weekends, and some other stupid things. It’s a price I’m willing to pay for having a job there. But I digress. I’m going to have to work in there again this year some three more weeks worth of his vacation. So, I’m going to try again a beg for a freezer suit or con my boss to get someone else to do the “job”.

When I’m bored, I watch TV. And there is one type of show that I don’t get and why they are still making it. Man Vs Food. Or shows that showcase places that make ginormous portions of food and the “people” who eat it. Hey, I know I’m over weight. I try and stay active and know if I want to loose weight, I have cut back on the “good” stuff. But shows like those scratch my head when America is told it’s needs to loose weight. Eating something that’s freaking huge and will put your ass in the hospital, where is the logic there? I know for some insane reason people may want to watch some poor slub try and eat something in an allotted time frame, but why make something that in the first place. I mean, my God. I’m waiting for The Four Horsemen Of Apokolips to riding down the street. Maybe it’s me but I miss the simple days of having at most, eight channels of viewing and not the mindless garbage that’s on now.

While on this subject, I’m finding the show I used to watch fall by the wayside. This season of Justified sucked and the season finale was just as bad. I guess after last season of being so awesome, I was expecting more and got less. Castle is another show that’s dropping a bit. Dunno if anyone has been watching it this season but Kate Becket was shot last season and Richard Castle said he loved her. So, this season a small reoccurring plot line is that Kate is recovering and she said she didn’t hear him say those words. Two episodes ago, it was revealed to Castle that she heard him and he’s pissed. So, how they’re going to end this plot line is anyone’s guess seeing how it’s been renewed for another season.

Dealing with this screwball weather we’re having in north eastern Ohio. Warm last month, freeze warnings this month. It’s been raining off and on today.

I may have mentioned is my last pulse that I’m now a premium member of Xanga. I was once way back in the day but I let it slip and I was off line from here for a long time. So now I have to decide if I want to change my look on this site. A friend of mine designed it before and she’s not on Xanga anymore. So any ideas wher to go for looks for this site would be nice.

In two weeks my local library is having it’s book sale and I’m going to looking for some books I don’t have. If I don’t it’s either Half Price books or Amazon. I still want to get some more collection of For Better Or For Worse.

I’m going to buying a new Mp3 player soon. My old one is starting to act up and I’m going to try and get the same one. It’s a Sansa Fuze. I like it because it has a memory card slot unlike the other ones and it’s small enough to fit in my shirt pocket.

Some music to leave you with. Have a awesome weekend…

  • I hate Mondays…

Yeah, I know. Who doesn’t. For some damned reason, where I work, any thing insanely wrong usually happens on Monday.

The sun was out and it felt decent. A bit of a chill in the air but nice. What I should have did was call in sick and went back to bed. No such luck. The work day started off normal. I had my list of stuff to do (In case any of those out wonder what I do for a living, I work in a Italian food warehouse four ten hour days a week.). I get done and it’s time to start on the routes. My boss gives me a easy route. My Spider-Sense decides to take a coffee break and I set out to do it in decent time. I was dressed in a T-Shirt, khakis, and a jacket. I walk out of the walk-in refrigerator and my boss has this weird look on his face. Not good. He then tells me the guy who normally works in the freezer decides to go home sick leaving me to finish up five routes worth of frozen to do. Had this been last Monday, I would been out the door and have a doctors excuse as to why I left screaming bloody murder. Last Monday was the week before Easter and the routes were extremely heavy. Me, being the all smart guy, decided to wash my winter jacket and other warm weather gear. So for Tuesday and Thursday I get to work in the deep freeze. Because I’m the only idiot who can read a order form and get the order correct. I hope. The guy who works in said freezer has his own unique way of having things in the freezer where only he can figure it out. Instead of boring you as to how infracking sane this nut job is, I’ll just leave you with this. He smokes in the freezer with the fans going full tilt. He smokes menthol cigarettes. So, yeah I hate Mondays. Or I hate the first day of the work week, I’ve had bad stuff happens to me on a Tuesday when I decided to take a Monday. So now it’s heavy jeans, heavy sweat shirt and thermal gloves. I’m in need of some chocolate or some Irish Whiskey by weeks end.

Now it’s time for a long hot shower and maybe a decent nights sleep seeing how I have to be awake by 11:30am. Yeah, some alcohol or something stronger by weeks end. Or a slice of Pecan Pie. I’m not picky.

    Be carefull out there…

  • Odds and Ends…

Here’s a little music from the 1980s. Can you guess who he plays guitar for???

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMzLUOwNyc&feature=player_detailpage#t=0s

Finshed The Hunger Games Trilogy and I am waiting for the movies.

I have no idea what my sister is making for Easter Dinner. Then again I’m a former church goer. The last time I attended a church service that didn’t include either a wedding or a funeral was before I turned 18. I do believe in a higher power, it’s just I have issues the people who go to church. The same people who shove their religion down anyones’ throat and God forbid they’re wrong.

The more I watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series, the more I’m glad I didn’t see the movie.

Speaking of movies, I may break down and try and see a mid night showing of The Avengers when it hits the theaters next month. I may regret it but who knows.

Just read the new Andrew Vachss book called That’s How I Roll. Another book of his that I totally enjoyed.

I’m seriously thinking of dropping Netflix. I haven’t watched it much in recent months and some shows I either download via The Playstation Network or now watch on Direct TV. But then again Hulu doesn’t have the shows on their pay site that Netflix does.

Lord, I just saw a ad for the new Three Stooges movie. Hollywood has no shame. Just like we need to see Titanic in 3D. I haven’t seen the movie nor will I. I did read back in the day a book by Clive Cussler called Raise The Titanic and that movie adaptaion stunk but the book was awesome. Another one of Cusslers’ books was made into a movie and that stunk. It was called Sahara.

Calling it a night. I’m going to try and not read a book but I’m got going to rule it out…

Happy Easter and try and not to go into Chocolate over dose or Jelly Bean over dose or a massive sugar rush…

  • This, that, and the other thing…

    A little music first…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFMzLUOwNyc&feature=player_detailpage#t=2s

Yeah, I know, It’s been over a week or so since the last post. I’ve been lazy and seeing how my birthday was last week, I’m owed it.

I mentioned it last week that I saw “The Hunger Games” last Thursday at a mid-night showing. I was running late so I missed going to seeing it IMAX (I asked and was told it was sold out a few weeks ago), and I was not surprised at the amount of screens it was on at the local theater. I was going to buy some popcorn and soda but balked at the $11.00 for a small one each. I would have sneaked something in but it was such a nice day that I didn’t bring my coat of many pockets. I should have brought my backpack but then again was not thinking of the sticker shock of the cost of snacks. Lord, is it out of hand anymore. Then sitting through twenty minutes of previews that maybe two was worth it. I don’t know how many of those out there who have or have not read the books (I’m re-reading the first one and will be starting the rest of the trilogy) but it was a good adaptation of the book. There was a few changes in the movie from the book that I kinda knew were not going to be in the movie. They were the ones I suspected. One I didn’t see coming but it was a minor one. Although I won’t be seeing it again on the big screen, I WILL be buying it on DVD/Blue Ray when it hit the stores.

One of the trailers I saw was Prometheus. I guess it’s a “prequel” to Alien. I’m not going to see it. Hey, I saw Alien on the big screen, make that the biggest one they had at the time, and I nearly shat my pants when the “chest buster” scene happened. That movie is one the best scary movies I’ve seen then and now. The more suspenseful the better. Screw all the”gore fest” movies. Any movie like Alien that can keep you on the edge of your seat and scare the crap out you without the gore is a damned fine one.

“Dark Shadows” looks interesting but I’m not a fan of Johny Depp. Hence having not seen any of the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies or very few of his movies. I’m not a big fan of his and I have enough movies I haven’t watched to see any of his yet. Or a mega list of books I want to read first. “Amazing Spider-Man” is another trailer that was shown but again not interested. Sam Rami did the first two better. But I may buy it on DVD just because Peter Parker makes web shooters instead of having the webs shooters come from inside of his wrists. How sad has Hollywood become where they are remaking movies that are less than 10 years old??? And another reimaging Superman again. “SIGH” I am finding it hard to really go to the movies any more…

I’m starting to purchase the “For Better Or For Worse” collections. So far I have four, only ten more or so to go. I’m not going to be buying the entire run just where Michael graduates from high school and on up. I would have spent my Amazon $50.00 gift card on these books but Andrew Vachss has a new book out and there is a book about going to the moon using what would have been a part of The Orion system had our President Obama hadn’t cut the funding for. And I justbout the trilogy of The Hunger Games as a birthday gift for myself.

Read online where Kate Winslet HATES the song Celine Dion sang for “Titanic”. It’s online at yahoo news in case anyone wants to read it. Had a good laugh after reading it.

Screw ball Ohio weather… Upper 60′s-70′s degree temps one week, 40 degree weather the next. I’m still waiting for a massive snow storm to hit our area. It’s not going to happen but but with this wacky weather I wouldn’t rule it out.

Just wondering if anyone has watched “Touch” and if it’s worth a look?

Yeah, I didn’t hit squat on the Mega Millions jackpot. So, it’s off to work on Monday. Sigh… Well there’s always next time…

Well, Ohio State is playing in a few minutes so I’m going to close it down for now. Hope everyone is doing okay.
